If I knew you were coming…

When I was in baker’s college, I had a teacher who once told us that the original recipe for poundcake was one pound of flour, one pound of sugar, one pound of butter, and one pound of eggs.

I can’t personally verify that as a real historical recipe, but I can say that it would make one heck of a dense cake. It’s also what this podcast is named for, those four base ingredients that are in nearly every baking recipe; flour, sugar, butter, and eggs.

Yeah, I guess I could have called the podcast “poundcake” instead, but now I get to say “sugar butt” pretty much all the time. Stick around, let me tell you how we put the scratch in your baking and maybe pick up a few new recipes along the line.
